Cross-cultural understanding is more important than ever in today’s interconnected world. The WiSci Girls STEAM Camp seeks to build relationships among girls from the African continent and the United States. While they’re discovering science and technology, they’re also making friendships and creating networks that will help them develop personally and professionally for years to come.

WiSci cultivated cross-cultural understanding in many ways. Not only did the camp bring together girls from five different countries — eSwatini, Ethiopia, Kenya, Namibia, and the U.S. — but it also created opportunities for them to learn about one another’s cultures and traditions whether through excursions to a Namibian wildlife sanctuary or the regular Culture Nights in which girls from each country showcased their cultures through dance, music, and photography.
