Today’s youth are the innovators, dreamers, and changemakers of the future. When you empower girls, you empower the world.

Girls empowerment was a critical component of the WiSci Girls STEAM Camp. Each day, campers shared their ideas and discovered the value of their contributions and those of their peers. WiSci’s mentors — which included professionals from Intel, Google, and NASA, the U.S. Department of State, Center for Disease Control, and local professionals from the Namibia University of Science and Technology and other local organizations — showed them how women can both succeed personally and make the world a better place through STEAM. Through daily Girl Up classes, camp counselors, too, instilled in girls the belief in their own abilities.

It truly made a difference — and we can’t wait to see what that means for the future. As U.S. Ambassador to Namibia Lisa Johnson told the girls at the end of the camp, “The past two weeks exposed you to new concepts and broadened your horizons. Your heads are swirling with new thoughts and possibilities. Don’t quiet those voices. Don’t limit those questions. Pursue them. Explore them. Then keep going to see where it takes you.”
